Saturday 18th at 12 noon
AGM & Annual Recital St Nicolas Church, Guildford
The new SOA year begins with a recital at 12 noon by our President and international recitalist Tom Bell. A light lunch follows the recital, after which the AGM starts at 1.30pm. Following the formal business of the AGM, we will hear from Tom Bell about the experience of playing in the 'Nine organs' Westminster Cathedral concert in November, and also from Graham Thorp about National Organ Day, and 'Pipes on the Pilgrim's Way'.

Hymn playing workshop & discussion - 'the playover', also second hand music sale

For all who play hymns - how to 'sell' the hymn to a congregation with an appropriate playover. SOA Committee Chair, Ian Church, leads a workshop that offers the opportunity to play, listen and discuss, using the large 3 manual Copeman Hart organ. There will also be a chance to browse and purchase (for a donation) a large selection of second hand music.

National Organ Day - Pipes on the Pilgrim's Way

SOA Committee member, Graham Thorp, leads a 'pilgramage' to churches and organs along the Pilgrim's Way to coincide with the RCO's 'National Organ Day'. At each venue, Graham will play two Bach pieces, followed with a piece played by a recent organ student. Those interested in learning the organ (any age!) are especially welcome. Observers also welcome.
Visit to Guildford Cathedral
A visit to hear about the recent rebuild, and opportunity for members to play this large 4 manual instrument.

Visit to Worplesdon and Pirbright St Mary's, Worplesdon GU3 3RE & St Michael's, Pirbright GU24 0JJ
A visit to two very different organs in neighbouring parishes; including lunch betwen the two visits.

Following workshops in recent years on articulation, legato playing, and pedalling, Tom Bell now leads a session on improvisation.
Members' recital & dinner (venue TBC)
The annual opportunity for members to prepare a piece to play to colleagues and friends, followed by dinner at a nearby restaurant.

Stanley & his contemporaries St Thomas-on-The-Bourne GU9 8HA
Following on from the sessions in 2018 (Buxtehude) and 2019 (Italian organ music) Julian Cooper directs a masterclass/workshop on the music of John Stanley and his contemporaries. An afternoon of discovery and learning; participants are invited to present a specific piece and receive helpful feedback. Observers also welcome.
